What is an airdrop?
Free tokens, how they work and how to join safely.
An airdrop is when a project distributes tokens to wallets, often to reward early users or build a community.
Common types
- Retroactive: rewards for past use of a product.
- Points / farming: you earn points for activity, converted to tokens later (not guaranteed).
- Testnet: rewards for testing a network with no real money.
- Exchange campaigns: tasks on an exchange for a reward.
Join safely
- Use only the official website and announcements.
- Use a separate wallet with small funds.
- A real airdrop never asks for your seed phrase or for you to pay first.
- Remember that airdrop income may be taxable. See our India tax guide.
